Highlights from Galaxy of the Stars 2022, our last gala. Many of the people on that stage had been dancing for only a few months.

Our one night of the year

Galaxy of the Stars is the academy's gala evening. It is not a competition and nobody is scored. It is the night our students step onto a proper theatre stage, in costume, with lights and an audience. They dance what they have spent the year learning.

For children

Performing earns the final star of your child's level. Level placements are announced live on the night.

For adults

You have trained all year. This is the evening it becomes something you and your family remember.

Prepared in class

The routine is taught in your normal lessons. Nothing extra to buy, nothing to rehearse at home.

Your family comes

Tell us how many seats you need when you register. The evening is professionally photographed and filmed.

The line-up

One evening, eight moments. This is the order the night unfolds.

  1. Little Stars

    Children's classes, youngest first

The night opens with our youngest. For many of them it is the first time on a real stage, in costume, under the lights. Cameras ready. Tissues closer than you think you need them.

  2. The Ballroom Floor

    Adult group classes

Beginners from this year and dancers of ten years, on the floor together. From the seats you cannot tell which is which.

  3. Ladies in Latin

    The ladies' Latin class

Full costume, heels, a number they have made their own. Most of them arrived wanting to get fit. They stayed for this.

  4. Dance With Your Coach

Private students, arranged with your coach

One student. One professional. One spotlight. Every number built privately, lesson by lesson, for the one person dancing it.

Want to be in this next year? Ask your coach on the night.

  5. Champions

    The Galaxy competitive team

The dancers who carry the Galaxy name and the Singapore flag onto competition floors. Watch the children in the audience during this one.

  6. The Coaches

    Your teachers

The people who taught you, dancing for you. Once a year. This is that night.

  7. The Galaxy Awards

    Everyone

New levels called out by name from the stage. Certificates handed over in front of the people who matter most to you.

  8. The Last Bow

    Every performer on stage

Everyone back on stage at once. Then we open the stage to families for photographs. The best pictures of the night happen here.

Who can register: every student enrolled with us by 23 August. That is not about how good you are. It is simply how long the routines take to teach. Anyone joining after that date performs at our showcase in June instead.

Our children perform as a group and we expect the whole class on stage together. For our adult students it is an invitation and never an obligation: dance if you want to and come and watch if you would rather.

Two evenings, not one

Please put both dates in the calendar before you register. Missing the rehearsal means missing the show, because it is the only time we are in the theatre together.

Wed 25 Nov, 7:00pm to 10:00pmRehearsal
Children rehearse first and go home early. Adults follow.
Thu 26 Nov, doors 7:00pmThe gala

The evening runs about 90 minutes with no long interval. Younger children dance early so families can leave in good time.

Questions

I have only been dancing a few months. Should I take part?

Yes. There is no audition and nobody is judged. Newer students dance together in one large group number, built for exactly where you are now, so nobody is out on their own. Watch the 2022 highlights above: a great many of the people on that stage had been dancing a matter of months.

I am an adult and the idea terrifies me.

Then come and watch and decide next year. For adults this is an invitation and never an obligation. If you would like to take part but not alone, ask your coach about dancing the number with them instead of in the group.

Do I have to be at the rehearsal?

Yes. Wednesday 25 November, 7:00pm to 10:00pm at Gateway Theatre. It is the only time we are all in the theatre before the show. Children rehearse first and are released early.

My child is shy. Is this too much?

They perform with their whole class, dancing something they already know well. Every year the children we worried about most are the ones asking when the next one is.

What does it cost to take part?

We do not have the final figure yet and we would rather tell you that than invent one. A theatre of this size carries real costs, so there will be a fee per dancer. Family seats will be priced separately. We are working it out now.

Nothing is due today. Registering holds your place. The moment the numbers are set we send them to you in writing and you decide then, with no obligation. There will also be a family rate when more than one child from the same family is performing.

How much does the costume cost?

Between S$30 and S$70 per performer. Where it falls in that range depends on the theme chosen for your group. Your teacher guides the choice and the academy places one order for the whole group so that everyone matches on stage and the price is better than buying alone. You will always be told the exact figure before anything is ordered and the costume is yours to keep.

How many family members can come?

Gateway Theatre seats over 900, so there is room for your family. Tell us how many seats you need in the form and we will confirm.

Will it be filmed?

Yes. The evening is professionally photographed and filmed. Photographs are taken before the show, so come in costume and ready. We will tell you how the photographs and the video are made available closer to the time.

What if I miss some classes before November?

Tell your coach. Routines are taught in sections and there is time to catch up.

It is a Thursday. Why not the weekend?

Gateway Theatre had one date available to us this year and this is it. That is exactly why we are telling you fifteen weeks ahead, so your family can plan around it.

Not dancing? Come anyway.

Half of what makes this evening work is the room. Gateway Theatre seats over nine hundred people and we would rather fill it with anyone who wants to be there than keep it for performers' families alone.

Bring whoever you like

Grandparents, friends, colleagues, the neighbour who keeps asking what you do on Thursdays. Tell us the number and we will hold the seats.

Thinking about starting?

This is the best evening of the year to see what the academy actually is. Come, watch and talk to us in the interval.

Reserve seats to watch

Register to perform

One form per performer. Registering two children? Send the form twice.

Helps us seat families together. Leave it blank if you are just curious about the academy.

About your child

Pick the date. The limits stop a birth year being typed by mistake.

About you

Many of our dancers are at different levels in different dances. Add a row for each one and we will place you in the right numbers.

This only helps us place you in the right group. Everyone enrolled by 23 August dances.

Everything about the evening is confirmed here. Please use the number you actually read.

Including grandparents and friends. Performers do not need a seat.Including everyone coming with you.

About cost, honestly. There will be a fee to take part. We are still costing the evening, because a theatre of this size carries real expenses, including the professional dance floor that has to be laid for us.

We are not asking you for money today and nothing is due now. Registering here tells us you want to be part of it and holds your place while we finalise the numbers. As soon as the fee and the seat prices are set we send them to you in writing and you decide then. If it does not work for your family you simply tell us and there is nothing to pay.

For reference, the costume is expected to be S$30 to S$70, chosen with your teacher and ordered for the whole group so everyone matches. Yours to keep.
Registration closes Sunday 23 August

We close then because costumes are ordered and the routines start being taught.

We will confirm your seats by WhatsApp closer to the evening.

★ You are registered. We have your place for Thursday 26 November.
